Job Purpose
The Technical Manager (Design) – Asset Adoption will provide expert guidance on network design, installation, testing, and commissioning. This role ensures compliance with industry regulations, supports adoption partners throughout the asset lifecycle, and leads business change initiatives to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the design authority for utility network adoption, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance to adoption partners on multi-utility design, construction, and compliance.
- Review and authorize submitted utility designs while contributing to the development of company standards.
- Engage with adoption partners from enquiry through to asset construction, enhancing the customer journey.
- Lead business change initiatives, supporting organizational development and coaching managers on people management issues.
- Identify and manage business risks while formulating strategic business plans.
- Support the development and implementation of commercial strategies to drive market growth.
- Oversee the professional development of direct reports, ensuring compliance with industry accreditations.
- Proactively manage and report workload and resource concerns to maintain project timelines.
- Contribute to the development of new products and services for adoption partners.
- Perform any additional duties as required by the Head of Asset Adoption.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or significant industry experience.
- Knowledge of at least one relevant utility distribution industry (design, operations, policy, or compliance).
- Experience managing staff and working with adoption partners.
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable:
- Working towards or registered as an Incorporated Engineer.
- Project Management Qualification (PMQ).
- CSCS Card.
- Experience with external audits.
- Knowledge of utility design modelling tools.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and GEM systems.
