Responsibilities
- Undertaking designs and design review of district energy systems at all stages from inception through to commercial operation. Also assisting in design, approvals and handover/adoption process for district energy assets.
- Undertaking modelling of the technical and commercial aspects of district energy plant operations including development of load assessments and plant selection strategies.
- Supporting commercial, project delivery and operations teams in management of client and contractor relationships.
- Undertaking site inspections, snagging and witness of commissioning for assets being built ahead of adoption or handover from contractor.
- Providing advice and assistance to commercial, project delivery and operational teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assisting in the preparation of project budgets and estimates.
- Assisting in ensuring that all generation plant and distribution network designs meet operational requirements and maximise whole life value.
- Assisting in development of site-specific energy strategy and coordinated design of energy center and district heating and cooling projects.
Requirements
- Professional membership of industry related body / working towards Chartered Engineering level
- Proven experience in designing district energy project, ideally combined heat and power and district heating projects, including commissioning
- Track record in effective management of project finances and delivering projects to budget and program
- Knowledge of project management and contract management procedures.
- Appreciation of commercial and planning / policy context surrounding energy in the UK
- Appreciation of business models and financial modelling techniques for CHP/district heating projects
- Good mechanical, chemical, electrical, process or energy engineering related degree, ideally with a post graduate qualification in renewable energy systems, district heating or similar
- Experience in the use of packaged software tools such as EnergPro, Termis, Hysopt, AutoCAD, GIS
- A good technical understanding of a wide range of low carbon technologies associated with district heating projects as building effective building interfaces
- Experience in design of mechanical systems such as combined heat and power (CHP), boilers, pumping and ventilation systems
- Experience of underground pipework systems and other utilities
