The Company

A large independent connections provider with a very broad and exciting range of projects. In addition to large solar connections, the company also works extensively with heavy industries, demand side response generation, battery energy storage and large private connections to the grid. Voltages range from 11kV to 132kV with project values extending up to £8m per scheme.

 The Role

As a Protection Design Engineer you will be responsible for the design and specification of Protection and Control systems for a number of ICP projects and DNO clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Producing designs for substation Protection and Control systems from 11kV up to 132kV (Single Line Diagrams, Circuit Diagrams, General Arrangements, Wiring Diagrams, Block Cable Diagrams/Schedules, cable specification/sizing calculations, etc.)
  • Producing specifications for substation Protection and Control systems from 11kV up to 132kV
  • Working alongside other designers, construction professionals and engineering teams
  • Liaising with external stakeholders, including the end client, other design houses and consultancies as well as other internal departments.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience designing Protection and Control systems up to 132kV
  • A good understanding of power industry (particularly UK) including technical standards
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adhere to budgets and programmes
  • Good communication skills
  • At least a HNC or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
