About the Company
The client is an employee-owned business specialising in high voltage (HV) electrical engineering from 11kV to 132kV. With a proven track record as the UK’s first independent Lloyd’s accredited contractor (ICP), they deliver bespoke solutions for grid connections and electrical infrastructure. Their expertise spans renewable generation projects (wind, solar, BESS), industrial and commercial developments, and electrical distribution design, including the installation of cables, transformers, substations, and control panels.
The Role
This new position has been created to support the Operations Manager by taking ownership of people management and resource allocation across live sites. The successful candidate will manage up to 20 direct reports, including site managers, supervisors, electricians, cable pullers, and fitters.
You’ll act as the link between site teams and the Operations Manager, ensuring effective workforce management, performance reviews, absence management, and staff development. While you will not be responsible for project delivery, you will oversee the day-to-day operational running of site-based teams, ensuring resources are in place and issues are resolved quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of up to 20 site-based staff (site managers, supervisors, electricians, fitters, cable pullers).
- Oversee performance management, absence, appraisals, and people development.
- Coordinate and support labour, material and material resources across multiple sites.
- Act as the bridge between site operations and the Operations Manager.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day running of site teams, resolving issues proactively.
- Conduct regular site visits, including audits, to monitor progress, address issues, and ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company procedures/policies.
- Ensure health and safety is maintained on sites at all times, including prompt reporting of incidents and near misses, proactive support with investigations, and implementing robust preventative measures.
- Spend 3-4 days per week on site and 1-2 days at the Bristol office (with flexibility to manage your own schedule).
- Travel to sites across England and Wales (no responsibility for Scottish sites). Sites are typically 50 miles from the Bristol office.
What You’ll Need
- Strong background in operations, site management, or resource management within electrical engineering or civils.
- Proven experience managing site-based teams and dealing with workforce performance and development.
- Excellent people management and problem-solving skills.
- Flexible to travel, with occasional overnight stays.
- Background in electrical preferred, though strong civils experience will also be considered.
